On January 25, 2011, within a framework of XIX International Christmas educational readings, there was held the conference “The nation’s value system as a guarantee of Russia’s prosperity”. The head of Synodic department for relations of the church and the society of Russian Orthodox Church, archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin presented for discussion the conception “Everlasting values - the basis of Russia’s identity”. In proposed document there are eight values nominated:
Justice. Comprehended as political equality of rights, the courts’ fairness, the top-managers’ responsibility. It implies social guarantees, demands overcoming the poverty and corruption. According to this principle, the allocation of values – both spiritual and material, created by people’s work, is to be fair.
Freedom. Personal, individual freedom – the freedom of entrepreneurship, of speech, religion, the freedom of choosing the place of residence and occupation. The nation-wide freedom as well. The independence and originality of Russia’s people.
Solidarity. The ability to share with one’s neighbor the load of care, his illnesses and sorrows. The nationwide solidarity as a power, ensuring the unity of the nation and its vitality.
Collegiality. The unity of authority and society in their work for country’s welfare. The unity of diverse cultures. Harmonious combination of people’s spiritual rushes and material interests.
Self-restraint and sacrifice. Refusal from consumer attitude towards one’s neighbor and the world around. The ability to sacrifice one’s possessions for the sale of welfare of others and Motherland.
Patriotism. Faith in Russia, firm devotion to home land, to its culture, willingness to work for the sake of Motherland’s welfare.
Man’s welfare and his value. Spiritual and material welfare of the man as the key priority of social development. Observance of personal rights.
Family traditions. Love and faithfulness. Taking care of younger and older ones.
Proposed list of values has caused deep resonance over mass media. It is worth to mention, that appealing to the value issue itself is utterly important. In conditions, when the country is counteracting the information-psychological war, it is vitally necessary for Russia to “recall” its true values in order to fulfill current “value vacuum”.
From the Governance and Problem Analysis Center’s view, the value thematic should consider all of the state-administrative documents of high level and, first of all - Russia’s Constitution. This is why in 2009 the Center started elaboration of new Constitution project, whose basis is represented by the values of Russian civilization.
